American capitalism is winning its war on the middle class. Middle income earners now make up less than half of the U.S. population.
The study just released by the Pew Research Center defines “middle income” households as those having between two-thirds and double the median household income.
The share of aggregate income going to middle income households continues its steady decline since the 1970s, and the gap between middle and upper income families continues to widen.
These trends have already done great damage to American society. But between Donald Trump’s racist, right-wing populism and the student “left” crusade to create microaggression-free safe spaces, is anyone other than Bernie Sanders paying attention?
